Newly Created Position to Drive Customer Acquisition for Its Bioengineering and Manufacturing of Custom OrganismsCompany Also Adds Industry Veteran John Pierce as AdvisorSan Diego, CA – April 18, 2016 -Ginkgo Bioworks, a leading organism design company bringing biology to industrial engineering, today at the World Congress on Biotechnology, announced Peter Boynton will join the company as Chief Commercialization Officer early this summer. In addition, the company also announced industry veteran John Pierce has joined as an advisor. These new senior level professionals bring a tremendous amount of expertise to Ginkgo to help fuel the company’s growth and expansion into industrial strain improvement, enzymes, and commodity chemicals.“We are rapidly growing our customer base, delivering improved strains and new products across many sectors including food, fragrance, and consumer goods and are now expanding to industrial enzymes and commodity chemicals,” said Jason Kelly, CEO and Co-Founder, Ginkgo Bioworks. “Peter brings years of experience and his knowledge and expertise in the areas of flavors, fragrances and sweeteners will help us further scale our foundry-based approach for delivering organisms to our customers. Boynton will also build a sales team and processes to manage key customer relationships across various sectors. Boynton joins Ginkgo from Tate & Lyle, where he most recently was responsible for managing the company’s relationship with a key global account. Previously, Boynton spent four years as Chief Commercial Officer at Amyris, where he led sales and business development in flavors and fragrances. Prior, Boynton was Senior Vice President of bio-products and fermentation at Tate & Lyle, and an executive at Cargill.
