Matthew Weinstock, PhD, is an experienced biotech professional who has served in many capacities during his career including scientist, inventor, educator, leader, executive, and advisor. His technical expertise spans protein engineering, drug discovery, advanced biomanufacturing, synthetic biology, and high-throughput genetic engineering. His efforts have led to technologies that have been successfully commercialized or have resulted in technology development partnerships with top-10 pharma companies and government agencies such as DARPA. He has experience working in both start-up and growth-stage companies, having built and led a >200-person scientific organization. He is adept at problem solving, technological innovation, team building, program management, scientific strategy, and collaborating with colleagues in other functional areas (e.g., business development, product development, legal, HR) to achieve results. Dr. Weinstock also has a deep passion for STEM education and supporting the development of the next generation of scientists and sustains this interest by developing and teaching courses through University of California, San Diego Extended Studies. He has a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Utah School of Medicine where his dissertation centered on the advancement of mirror-image display technologies to discover D-peptide therapeutics against emerging infectious diseases.
