Dr. Joon Young (Leon) Jung works for the human & animal nutrition company CJ CheilJedang, which has been harnessing microorganisms to produce amino acids and nucleotides for >60 years. He received his Ph.D. in chemical & biological engineering, concentrating on microbial metabolomics based on isotope analysis), from Korea University in Seoul, Republic of Korea. He started with CJ CheilJedang in Seoul, Korea, in 2015 as a senior researcher in the OMICS team, responsible for metabolic flux analysis based on a genome-scale model and isotope tracing. From there, he moved on to direct R&BD(research & business development) partnership program working on open innovation with novel innovative startups in synthetic biology for five years. He then moved to new business development, working to accelerate new tech-based businesses for CJ, including synbio CDMO and alternative protein.
