Kirsten Benjamin

Vice President, Microbial Development & Analysis
Pivot Bio

Kirsten Benjamin is Vice President of Synthetic Biology at Pivot Bio, which is an agricultural biologicals company developing and commercializing nitrogen-fixing soil inoculants for cereal crops that enable farmers to reduce their reliance on synthetic nitrogen fertilizers. The four commercialized Pivot Bio products and future product field trials are regulated by the USDA and similar agencies in other countries. Prior to joining Pivot Bio, Kirsten was Vice President of Biology at Amyris, which is a pioneer in the high-tech, sustainable, fermentation-based chemicals sector that has launched 15 fermentation-derived products in the past 12 years. Over the years, Kirsten’s technical leadership and coordination between R&D, Manufacturing, and Regulatory (including filings with EPA and EFSA) have aided successful technology transfer of over eight microbial strains and processes for large-scale manufacturing of multiple target molecules. In addition, Kirsten is a scientific advisor for a cultured meat company, and thus is familiar with associated EPA and USDA regulatory interactions.
