Novonesis

Christian Troetschel, PhD, is a scientific lead in the research and development department of the Chr. Hansen HMO GmbH, part of Novonesis. In this role, he has end-to-end responsibility for bacterial production strains and processes for the biotechnological production of Human Milk Oligosaccharides. He acts as a link between different functions in Novonesis, such as upstream and downstream processing, regulatory affairs and IP. Christian already engineered bacterial strains for the biotechnological production of amino acids in his diploma and doctoral theses at the University of Cologne, Germany, in collaboration with Evonik, a German specialty chemicals company. His particular focus was on the transport of amino acids across the cell membrane. At the Ruhr-University Bochum, Germany, during his postdoc he headed a project group that studied the (membrane) proteome of microbial amino acid producers and also sperm in terms of (production) stress response and signaling pathways. Since 2018 Christian works on development of HMO production processes.
