In a move that could reshape the future of motorsports, Gevo, Inc., has inked a purchase agreement with Shell Global Solutions Deutschland GmbH (“Shell”) for its innovative low-carbon intensity fuel blendstock. This partnership marks a significant milestone in the quest to prove that top-tier performance and sustainability can go hand in hand, even in the demanding world of competitive racing.

Gevo’s renewable blendstock is designed to meet the rigorous demands of motorsport, ensuring that even in the heat of competition, sustainability doesn't come at the cost of performance. The blendstock not only supports the energy-intensive requirements of racing but also offers enhanced net-energy storage capabilities while significantly reducing carbon emissions—a win for both racers and the planet.

At the core of Gevo’s mission is a commitment to carbon abatement. By using sustainable feedstocks such as agricultural waste, which adhere to the EU Renewable Energy Directive Annex IX guidelines, Gevo is crafting high-performance racing fuel that’s as eco-friendly as it is efficient. This collaboration with Shell underscores the crucial role that low-carbon solutions play in the evolving landscape of fuel technology.

Damien Perriman, Chief Business Development Officer at Gevo, is enthusiastic about the impact this partnership could have on the racing industry, “This is an important step towards a sustainable future. The racing industry exhilarates and inspires, and its enormous audience has an appreciation of what technology can do to enhance the human experience. Leading companies across the globe are looking to Gevo to deliver net-zero fuels and chemicals. With products like renewable fuels for all modes of transportation, specialty additives for lubricants, and sustainable chemicals that replace outdated technologies, Gevo is thrilled to drive this transformation.”

Matthias Mundt, General Manager of Fuels Technology Future Mobility Portfolio at Shell, echoes this sentiment. “As a provider of specialty fuels to racing series worldwide, Shell is committed to enhancing sustainability without compromising on efficiency and performance. The 100% renewable race fuel we developed for the NTT INDYCAR series is just one example. We are excited to work with Gevo to explore the full potential of their low-carbon intensity products.”

This partnership between Gevo and Shell not only highlights the growing importance of sustainable solutions in motorsports but also sets the stage for a future where cutting-edge performance and environmental responsibility are no longer mutually exclusive.
