June 15, 2017 09:00 AM Eastern Daylight Time CAMBRIDGE, Mass. & SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Elemental Machines today announced that the distinguished Dr. Una Ryan, OBE has joined its Board of Directors. Bringing more than 50 years of experience to this role, Ryan will provide strategic guidance as Elemental Machines expands its market leadership in data-driven insights into complex processes for science-based industries.

A highly regarded biologist, healthcare executive, entrepreneur and investor, Ryan has a proven track record of building and running businesses at the intersection of technology and science. She is currently a limited partner at Breakout Ventures, Managing Director of Golden Seeds, an investment firm empowering women entrepreneurs, and a partner in Astia Angel where she's responsible for investing in women-led ventures. She has a portfolio of approximately 30 start-ups in the Bay Area and Boston."Manufacturing leaders in engineering-focused industries like semiconductors have leveraged technology to achieve unprecedented levels of quality and consistency, improving yields and minimizing defects. Unfortunately, more research-based industries, like synthetic biology, have yet to benefit from these same innovations – until now," said Ryan. "Machine learning and intelligent systems have the power to revolutionize research and manufacturing processes, and the technology Elemental Machines is producing is at the forefront of this effort. I look forward to drawing on my diverse background to advise Elemental Machines for continued success."Ryan holds a Ph.D. in Cellular and Molecular Biology from the University of Cambridge and BS degrees from Bristol University, and currently serves on the boards of both universities. Ryan has additional experience as a member of the boards of public, private and non-profit companies and has served on Compensation, Audit, Nominating and Governance, and R&D committees. Current board positions include RenovoRx, a medical device company, and Nativis, non-invasive treatment for cancer and other serious diseases. Previously, she was Chair of the Bay Area BioEconomy Initiative, an industry organization committed to fostering innovation and collaboration in the Bay Area, now combined with CLSI (California Life Sciences Institute), and was formerly on the board of BIO, BayBio and Chair of MassBio."We're thrilled to welcome Una to our Board of Directors," said Sridhar Iyengar, Ph.D., President and CEO of Elemental Machines. "As a distinguished scientist, entrepreneur, and investor, she brings first-hand understanding of the market opportunity and an unmatched background and skill set that will be invaluable to our organization and, in turn, our customers."About Elemental MachinesElemental Machines is revolutionizing science-based industries with powerful insights that help customers transform laboratory operations, research and development processes, and manufacturing outcomes.
