We are seeking a Senior/Staff Research Associate in our Pleasanton, CA.


Job description:

As a Senior/Staff Research Associate in the Molecular Biology group, you will be a part of a diverse team focused on developing Inscripta’s biomanufacturing platform. The ideal candidate will bring experience primarily focused within molecular biology to assist with the discovery of novel enzymes, characterizing enzymes, refactoring metabolic pathways, and applying the state-of-art technology to engineer high performing microbial biomanufacturing platforms. You will work closely with a world class team of strain engineers, automation engineers, and computer scientists, to develop and establish highly efficient high throughput molecular biology workflows. This position reports directly to the Director of Molecular Biology.


Key Responsibilities

  • Establish high-throughput plasmid construction and microbial strain engineering workflow by working closely with automation engineers and data scientists.
  • Develop and implement platform molecular biology tools for multiplex expression of heterologous genes.
  • Develop and optimize highly multiplexed molecular biology tools to identify genetic changes in engineered microbial cell lines.
  • Lead and establish safe bench workspace.

Requirements

 

Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. in molecular biology, cell biology, protein biology, bioengineering, or a related field
  • 5+ years of hands on laboratory experience utilizing a variety of gene synthesis and cloning techniques, diversity generation, and multiplex cloning for enzyme and microbial strain engineering.
  • Skilled in microbiology techniques for media preparation, competent cell preparation, transfection, and plasmid preparation,
  • Skilled in cell culture techniques for heterologous gene expression.
  • Excited about experiments and excellent attention to details.
  • Demonstrated ability to be highly productive in a fast-paced environment under demanding timelines.å


Additional preferred qualifications

  • Experience with automated liquid handling instrument and other liquid handing systems for high-throughput cloning and strain engineering.
  • Experience with biochemistry skills for heterologous gene expression, western blot, and qPCR.
  • Experience in protein and strain engineering through structure informed mutagenesis or directed evolution.
  • Experience using data analysis tools such as python and R to design and manage DNA sequences for library creation and NGS data processing.
  • Experience in sample preparation for short and long read next generation sequencing.

Inscripta offers a competitive base salary, bonus plan, benefits package, 401k match and an attractive equity program to all team members. Starting Salary Range: $95,000-$120,000 per year. This salary range is provided per current averages and expectations. The salary and job title for this opening will be based on the selected candidate's qualifications and experience and may be outside this range.
