Industrial Microbes (iMicrobes) is hiring a Downstream Process (DSP) Engineer to participate in all aspects of our downstream purification efforts in Alameda, CA. Candidates will be hired at the Engineer II to Engineer III level, as appropriate.

The DSP Engineer will play a key role in a growing team, working to develop creative solutions to achieve our milestones with funded partnerships. A successful candidate will be excited to approach technical challenges in a collaborative environment. In the short term, you will optimize processes to convert a fermentation-derived intermediate to a final product. You will interact heavily with consultants and a contract manufacturing organization (CMO) to scale the process and deliver samples to customers. This is a hands-on role with the potential to grow into the leader of a DSP team.

The ideal candidate will have some of the following experiences and qualifications:

• Set up and performed bench-scale separation processes from scratch
• Successfully transferred a process to a CMO facility including writing SOPs and contributing to technology transfer documents
• Operational experience beyond the bench at pilot or CMO scale
• Optimized a scalable purification method for biopolymers
• Converted fermentation-derived intermediates to final products via chemical transformation or derivatization
• Built-out lab capabilities including purchasing equipment and suggesting modifications to infrastructure
• Understanding of process safety and environmental impacts
• Experience in scaling a process or certain aspects thereof to the commercial scale

While the position is flexible and some work can be done remotely, there is a requirement to be on-site in Alameda, CA regularly. This position requires some travel to CMOs. Must be currently authorized to work in the United States.
