John Sgouros – Consultant
John Sgouros is a biologist who moved to bioinformatics about 25 years ago. After a PhD in protein chemistry at the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Munich, Germany, he joined the European Yeast Genome Sequencing Project where he assembled and analyzed the sequence of yeast chromosome III, the first eukaryotic chromosome to be fully sequenced. He has been actively involved in other genome projects including the plant pathogens Xylella sp. and Xanthomonas sp. in Brazil, fission yeast and the Human Genome Project. With a long career in pharmaceutical industry and academia he is now a consultant, focusing on knowledge management in large scale genome analysis with a special emphasis on synthetic biology.
