Edward Green – Chief Scientific Officer

Green Biologics

Edward gained a Ph.D. in Biochemical Engineering from the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology (UMIST) in 1993. Edward spent five years in academia at Rice University, Texas, US and at Gothenburg University, Sweden developing advanced fermentation process for ethanol and butanol production. In 1998, Edward joined Agrol Ltd., a UK start up where he established a multi-disciplinary team that developed a high temperature ethanol process. In 2003, Edward founded Green Biologics Limited (GBL) to further develop and commercialise the butanol fermentation.

Edward has pioneered technical improvements in microbial strain improvement and fermentation process development for renewable chemical and biofuel production over the past 20 years contributing to numerous scientific publications and patents. Edward is also an entrepreneur having built GBL from scratch into a world leader within ten years. Edward has a UK government advisory role participating in Advisory Boards for Industrial Biotechnology (IB Leadership Forum) and Chemistry (Chemistry Innovation) and participates in grant review panels for TSB and the BBSRC.
