Edward Amento – Executive Director

Dr. Edward P. Amento, founder of the Molecular Medicine Research Institute and co-founder and executive officer of several biopharmaceutical companies, is an internationally recognized expert on the cellular and molecular biology of connective tissue disorders. He currently serves as executive director, board chair, and senior investigator at MMRI—a role that also includes mentoring visiting scientists with promising, early stage innovative projects and supporting their efforts to advance discovery. He and his team at the Institute focus on research initiatives to understand intervention points in autoimmune/inflammatory diseases, fibrosis and cancer. Dr. Amento is also an Adjunct Clinical Professor at Stanford University School of Medicine and serves on the board of directors and scientific advisory boards of several biopharmaceutical companies. Dr. Amento was a research director at Genentech where he directed programs from bench findings to clinical development. Prior to moving to California, he was a faculty member at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital where he had pursued his postdoctoral research training, preceded by clinical fellowships in Pulmonary Diseases and Rheumatology/Immunology.
