News Digest #202 – $12.3M for Evonetix and $10M for Engine Bio, SynBioBeta Early Bird ends today!

Hi all,

What does the global bioeconomy look like in 5, 10 or 20 years? What are the key cases of microbial-enabled manufacturing, how should they evolve in the coming years? Last year, fifty companies raised over $1.7 billion for the development of innovative synthetic biology technologies, check out our market map of them below. Join the discussion this October at SynBioBeta 2018 with code DIGEST by the end of the day to save $50.

Today, Engine Biosciences, a company whose team members include Tim Lu and Jim Collins from MIT, announced a $10 Million Series A financing to combine artificial intelligence and genomics to redesign drug discovery.

The next generation DNA synthesis market is heating up as Evonetix raised a $12.3 million (£9 million) Series A led by DCVC to develop technology that enables the parallel synthesis of DNA on silicon arrays. Paris-based DNA Script also announced an agreement with Dynamic Combinatorial Chemistry (DCC) to advance its enzymatic technology to synthesize long DNA fragments, towards entire genes and, eventually, chromosomes.

Hermann Hauser and Matt Ocko, Evonetix Investors.

Clean meat company Memphis Meats received investment from Tyson Foods’ venture capital arm. Tyson joins other top investors including Bill Gates and Richard Branson.

I hope you have a great week.
