We are currently seeking a motivated and accomplished Scientist with a strong background in developing and executing flow cytometry experiments on microbial samples. This person will report to the Group Lead of Molecular Sciences, and work directly with a team of scientists and associates to advance the development of cell sorting assays and techniques to support ongoing high-throughput strain engineering and screening efforts.
The ideal candidate will have a passion for scientific innovation, exhibit adept technical skills, and be comfortable working in a dynamic startup environment. A demonstrable track record of success in functioning as part of a project team is essential. Main responsibilities include conceptualizing, developing, and coordinating the execution of flow cytometry/FACS experiments on complex microbial samples and assay development to support novel FACS applications
Make strong contributions to the strategic direction, experimental design, and supervision of AbSci’s high-throughput cell screening workflow
Drive innovation and development of novel library screening technologies based on flow cytometry or microfluidic platforms
Champion AbSci’s core technology and coordinate cross- functional collaborative projects
Perform data analysis of scientific results and present internally to team members and senior management
Manage multiple independent experiments concurrently, including maintaining effective data capture, technical protocols, and analysis
Document experimental results and maintain an up-to-date electronic lab notebook
PhD in microbiology, molecular biology, synthetic biology, or a related scientific discipline
3+ years of directly relevant experience with developing flow cytometry-based analyses and cell sorting methods for bacterial populations, especially E. coli
Experience with immuno-labeling techniques and cell fixation methods
Deep understanding and experience with modern FACS and analytical flow cytometry equipment (e.g., from BD, Sony, Beckman-Coulter, Cytek, etc.)
Experience with FlowJo or similar data analysis packages. Experience applying statistical analysis packages (e.g., R) to cell sorting is a plus.
Experience with microfluidic technology, microdroplets, and droplet-based sorting is a plus
Experience in molecular biology and cell physiology/metabolism is preferred
